About the Jaguar Marching Band

Picture
As one of the most visible groups in our school, the Jaguar Marching Band plays an integral role in the school culture. JMB is a co-curricular activity, linked closely to the content we learn in band classes. The marching band rehearses completely outside of school throughout the fall (July through early November). We love to contribute to the SKG “Friday Night Lights” experience for our students and our community through our weekly performances at all Varsity Football Games. Additionally, we compete in local marching band competitions.

In 2023, our first competitive marching season, the Jaguar Marching Band received superior ratings in all captions and placed in our class repeatedly. Membership includes woodwinds, brass, percussion, and color guard.

Woodwind, Brass, Percussion

The following instrument sections will be included in JMB: Flute, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Trumpet, Mellophone (Horn), Trombone, Baritone (Euphonium), Sousaphone (Tuba), and Percussion (Drumline and Front Ensemble).

In order to be elligible, students must:
  • Be in 9th-12th grade at SKG

About the Winterguard

Winterguard is a separate activity from the fall color guard, which is part of the marching band. In the Winterguard, students dance, spin, and perform indoors to pre-recorded music. The Winterguard program provides our guard students with an opportunity to perform year-round. While the marching band musicians keep improving their skills in band classes, the guard students keep improving their skills in the Winterguard. The winterguard season begins with auditions in November and runs through early April each year.

Our winterguard competes in SAPA (Southern Association for Performance Arts) competitions throughout the Southeast. In our first season in 2023, our winterguard was promoted up a class and even was awarded 1st place at one of their competitions! In 2024, our winterguard received the BRONZE MEDAL in their class at the SAPA Championships.

More information about the winterguard program can be found on the SKG Guard Instagram @skg_guards

2024 Winterguard Auditions: November 11-13, 5-7:30pm in the SKG Commons
